Chapter 14

Amelia

The doorbell woke me up. It was earlier than I was used to waking up and since I already got up at seven, I couldn’t imagine who would be here at this hour. I didn’t know many morning people. Ashley didn’t get up till noon. Nothing good, came at six in the morning.

“Who is it?”

“Fronn Drivers. We have a pick-up for Amelia Ean?”

I opened the door a crack, because all I could see was a guy in a suit at the door. He had on that black chauffeur hat, but that still didn’t tell me much about who he was.

“I am sorry, but you must be mistaken, I haven’t ordered a car service.”

“Your boss did. Said that I was to take you anywhere you wanted to go.”

I was a bit shocked for a moment.

“Charles did this?”

“No, Phillip.”

Oh, Phillip. What was this supposed to mean? I had no idea how I was supposed to read that man. He was full of mystery and I was confused more than not, when it came to him. It wasn’t a good feeling, but it wasn’t something that I could change either.

“Um, well I am not dressed yet or anything.”

The man’s dark eyes had been playing over my body and I could only imagine what he was thinking. Whatever it was, I didn’t want to know.

“I will be out here waiting. I just wanted to tell you that I was here.”

“Um, okay, thanks. I will be out soon.”

I shut the door and leaned against it. I didn’t know what this meant, and what was I supposed to do with a driver? I didn’t have anywhere to go, but to work. Was I missing something? I wanted to call Phillip and find out what this was about, but I didn’t even know his number and I doubted that he would answer this early. I really felt like I was missing something important.

With no other choice, I got in the shower and got ready for the day. I don’t know what I was supposed to do, but I felt weird having someone outside waiting for me. I was also wondering why Phillip would send the driver in the first place.

I went outside and it was about the time that I was getting up and ready for the day. The driver, his name was Tony, told me that he would take me wherever I wanted to go.

“I wouldn’t mind some breakfast Tony. Take me to that burrito stand on Lexington. They have a real good breakfast one. I think they’re open.”

Tony agreed and I opened the door to get in. He wanted to open it for me, but I told him that I had it. It was too strange to have him cater to me in that way. It was bad enough he was there at all. I didn’t want him to have to open a door for me or anything else like that. It just made me feel weird.

I made a shocked sound as I went to get in.
